Summer Trend: Crochet

This summer, a major fashion trend that I have been enjoying is crocheted pieces. This season, crochet has been all over the runways and in every fashion magazine. Who can resist? I like how classic it can make an outfit look. This is a trend that anyone can wear. Do you wear this classic summer trend?

The crochet and floral print create for such a girly-classic look. It being summer, and being covered in black from the waist down, I went with a neutral-colored top with pops of brilliant color. My favorite part of this outfit is the skirt; I absolutely love the way the crochet tiers down. The bow pendant necklace adds that nice girly touch.

Wonder Forest

I adore the look of black-on-black, especially black tights under black shoes—it gives the appearance of longer legs, which I personally like. Oasap's sheer, lightweight tights are perfect for the summer days.

The bright floral print on top of the dark background really ties the entire look together.

These chunky heels keep this outfit more on the casual side.

July Birchbox Review: Glamour Edition

This month, Birchbox teamed up with Glamour to put together July's box. July's theme is The Five Senses. That should give you an idea of what I received in my July Birchbox!

Harvey Prince Eau Flirt Lavender Pumpkin: Though it feels carefree, this scent has been meticulously calibrated to turn up the heat. It combines pumpkin and lavender, two seemingly ill-matched notes that have been clinically proven to spur passionate reactions in men. Olfactory theory aside, we love the combination of seductive jasmine and freesia with sumptuous nutmeg, cinnamon, and amber.

My thoughts: I really like this perfume. It has such a sweet, girly scent to it. I can definitely smell the floral and warm spices. Would I purchase this perfume? Yes.

Tea Forté Ginger Pear Minteas: These pick-me-up treats are laced with healthy ingredients that keep you balanced. The flavors are designed not only to taste good but also to accomplish specific wellness goals. Resist boosts immunity with lemon and lime extracts, while Results, a spicy matcha chai and cinnamon blend, spurs metabolism. Regroup, a ginger pear treat, helps you focus; energizing Reboot is a cocoa mate; and Retreat, a lemongrass yuzu blend, is designed to help you relax.

My thoughts: The packaging is adorable and perfect to carry around in your purse. However, the scent and taste are absolutely dreadful. Would I purchase these minteas? No!

Color Club in "Blue-Ming" - Summer Pastels Collection: Blue-Ming is a lovely greenish turquoise.

My thoughts: This is such a bright, beautiful color. It being my first time trying Color Club nail polishes, I am very pleased! The overall quality of this nail polish is fantastic, and the wear is long-lasting. I love the way the brush is made, as it makes application very easy and leaves little room for mistakes. Would I purchase this nail polish color? Yes!

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in "Black": The precision pen tip allows you to control the thickness of the line you create and vary the intensity of your look. Plus, the fade-proof formula will hold up all day and night.

My thoughts: I was excited to receive this eyeliner as a full-sized product. I am in love! Creating a cat eye has never been so easy! This is definitely the number one liquid eyeliner that I have used. Would I purchase this liquid eyeliner? Yes!

Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum: Supergoop’s unique Hydrovotin 24 complex works with the skin’s own moisture mechanisms to increase hydration levels, while vitamins E and B5 heal past damage. A chemical sunscreen duo absorbs both UVA rays that lead to premature aging and UVB rays that cause sunburn. The top-of-the-line “PA +++” rating means the formula meets the highest standards for sun protection. The kicker? This sunscreen serum is paraben and fragrance-free—just what the doctor ordered for sensitive skin.

My thoughts: I am not a fan of this sunscreen. In fact, I am not a fan of sunscreen in general. This particular one made my face super oily and difficult to apply my foundation, even after letting it sit for 15 minutes. Would I purchase this sunscreen?

Birchbox Exclusive Earbuds: These are just like the earbuds that came with your standard music player, only way cuter. The contrasting neon shades play into this season’s neon trend.

My thoughts: Aren't these just too adorable? I was really excited when I saw these earbuds in my box. They are unlike any other. Would I purchase these earbuds? Yes!

June + July Beauty Favorites

1. Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in "Black Ebony": After application of my gel eye liner, I use this tightline eye liner to blend it out for a softer look—or on its own for an even softer look. I also use this eye liner to create a dark smokey eye, by simply blending my gel liner further out. I use Sigma Beauty's Angled Brow - E75 and Small Eye Liner - E10 makeup brushes for all eye liner application. This is a powder liner, and the consistency is perfect for filling in eyebrows. My hair is naturally black, and I like for my eyebrows to be the exact same color as my hair, so I lightly darken them with this. Works magically.

2. Sigma Beauty "Flare" Eye Shadow Palette: This eye shadow palette is one of my favorites for when I want to create a fun eye makeup look! When I am not wearing a neutral eye look, I love wearing cool-toned colors. With these bright, yet sophisticated hues, I am able to create so many fun, wearable looks! I love every color in this palette, and the pigmentation is gorgeous. The colors are just perfect to wear during the springtime and summertime.

3. Julep Nail Polish in "Lily": Lily is such a gorgeous shade of purple. For application, I apply a base coat, and follow with two coats of Lily. The results are beautifully long-lasting.

4. Sigma Beauty Dry'n Shape: I cannot imagine what I would do to dry all of my makeup brushes without this product. The Dry'n Shape is designed to dry and shape makeup brushes to their original form within 4-6 hours. I love how quick and easy this is to use. When I deep clean my brushes, I usually have 5-15 to clean at once; this product makes things much easier. After washing my brushes, I simply slide them into the Dry'n Shape, and let it do the rest. If you are like me and typically have a lot of makeup brushes to clean at once, I highly recommend getting or having something similar to the Dry'n Shape!

5. Blinc Mascara in "Black": This mascara is by far the best mascara I have ever had! It uniquely uses a copolymer-based formula to create tiny tubes around each individual eye lash, adding volume and height. This does wonders for my lashes. My favorite things about this mascara is how simple it is to remove; by simply using water, each individual tube slides off in one piece, leaving absolutely no smears or smudges behind!

When it comes to fashion, some of us may have a particular style, and some of us may have a few. When it comes to my style, I wear what I am feeling at the moment in time or what inspires me. I found this beautiful chiffon maxi skirt at Jolie Moi, and it inspired me to create a summer boho-chic look—what better way to do so than to pair it with this oh-so-pretty multi-strap lace back cami. Because of the skirt's casual wide-folded hem (which I love), I paired a chunky heel with this ensemble. These adorable oxford ankle boots complete the look! What is your style?

Infinite Iris

I was going through some old nail polishes and came across Sally Hansen's Beyond Perfect Protein Nail Color in Infinite Iris. I forgot how beautiful and perfectly feminine this color is. I love wearing light, feminine colors—especially pinks and purples—all year round.

Fourth of July Inspired Outfit

Fourth of July is only one day away, so I felt inspired to create an outfit incorporating the holiday colors. I found these gorgeous white lace detailed shorts and wanted them to be the focal point of the outfit to dress down. Because these shorts are so femininely embellished, I went with a simple, casual top. Still wanting that girlish touch, I decided to go with this light denim-inspired tie-front top. I fell in love with these brown leather oxford boots! The short, chunky heel dresses down the shorts, and the neutral color keeps the focus on the apparel. To incorporate the color red into this look, I thought accents would be cute. We're now ready to watch those beautiful fireworks! What are your Fourth of July plans?

June Birchbox Review: Jet Set Edition

June's Birchbox was devoted to products that indulge our inner jet-setter. I was pretty excited when I received my Birchbox this month, considering that I will be traveling this summer. Where will you be traveling this summer?

Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm: The epitome of a multitasker, this luxurious balm primes, moisturizers, and perfects skin in a single step. Peptides and moisturizing microspheres help wrinkles look less visible and reduces their depth over time. An exclusive color-correcting complex hides redness, while mattifiers zap excess oil and shrink the look of pores. Finally, antioxidants keep skin protected from free radical damage.

My thoughts: I love that this beauty balm is a 10-in-1 product, because I could really use a skin care routine that involves less products! This beauty balm is definitely a multitasker—it moisturizes, primes, mattifies, and conceals. Would I purchase this beauty balm? Yes!

TheBalm Stainiac in "Beauty Queen": The tinted gel leaves a lasting stain on lips and cheeks. Since it’s water-based, it has a longer setting time than most quick-dry stains, which means it won’t leave any unsightly streaks behind as long as you take care to blend well. Use a single coat for a subtle look or layer it on for a more visible (yet still discreet) hue.

My thoughts: I prefer using lip stains over lipsticks and lip glosses. Although I have tried better lip stains, I do like this one. Because this lip stain is a gel, it feels a bit weird during application, but it blends very well and leaves a pretty, subtle hue. Would I purchase this lip stain? Yes.

Melvita Floral Water in "Rose": Each of Melvita’s Floral Waters uses healing natural extracts to refresh and soothe skin. Lavender keeps normal and combination skin balanced and protected, while Rose is ideal for sensitive or prematurely aging complexions. Loaded with vitamin C, Orange Blossom energizes dull skin and evens out any blotchiness. All three smell divine.

My thoughts: This rose water spray is perfect for refreshing the skin. I enjoy the slightly cooling sensation that lingers. I also like the invigorating, light floral scent. I have very sensitive skin, and this spray is non-irritating. Would I purchase this rose water spray? Maybe.

Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume: Even if you’ve never heard of Cetalox, you’ve undoubtedly picked up its scent. Used as a back note in thousands of fragrances, Cetalox (a synthetic substitute for grey amber) takes center stage in Not a Perfume. The result is clean and pure, as well as being allergen-free.

My thoughts: Because this perfume contains only a single note, it is a little too minimalistic for my liking. The find the scent to be quite plain—I'm not even sure how to describe it. Let us not forget that I am very picky when it comes to perfume! Would I purchase this perfume? No.

Modcloth Green Deer Headband: These fabric-covered headbands come in three fun varieties—a red polka dot pattern that’s a little Marilyn Monroe and a little Betty Boop, and a cute deer print with a light blue or green background. You can’t go wrong—in fact, you might need all three.

My thoughts: I love wearing this headband around the house. Although I do not typically wear headbands, I do wear them around the house to keep my hair out of my face. I get headaches very easily from wearing any type of hair accessory. However, this headband is one of the few that does not! I like that you can adjust it to your comfort. I forget that I even have it on! Would I purchase this headband? Yes!

I also received a coupon code (MODVENTURE) for $10 off any $75+ order at - valid 6/1 - 7/10!

May Birchbox Review: "Gossip Girl" Edition

For the month of May, Birchbox teamed up with Gossip Girl to create a beauty box inspired by the series and Manhattan’s chicest events!

Birchbox Notecards: Made of durable cardstock, these are pretty much the cutest notecards ever. You can use them as thank you notes, invitations, and just-because-you’re-awesome cards.

My thoughts: These Birchbox notecards are very chic and pretty darn adorable! They can be used for just about anything. Simple as that! Would I purchase these notecards? Maybe!

Dior Miss Dior: An audacious chypre floral scent, Miss Dior charms with opening top notes of fresh citrus before blossoming into a bouquet of jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, and rose. It’s anchored with a base of patchouli laced with sultry musk.

My thoughts: I did not like this fragrance. The scent is just way too strong for my liking. Look how adorable the bottle is though! Would I purchase this perfume? No.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Cleansing Oil Shampoo: Made with purifying deep-sea volcanic extracts, Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil lathers up into a light foam to transform tired locks into a luscious mane. It gets rid of any and all signs of oily debris while softening hair. Plus, the formula is made without heavy silicones, so it won’t weigh hair down.

My thoughts: I love this shampoo. It leaves my hair feeling and looking super clean and soft! This is a great product for my hair type, as my hair is on the dry, frizzy side. Would I purchase this cleansing oil shampoo? Yes!

Miracle Skin Transformer Body SPF 20: Let’s start with the moisturizing part: organic narcissus, jojoba oil, soy amino, and hyaluronic acids keep skin hydrated all day long, while marine extracts add firmness and suppleness. Next, a trio of sunscreens—oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octisalate—protect against damaging UV rays, maintaining skin’s youthfulness. Finally, skin-enhancing silicone smooths over any surface discoloration. Approved by dermatologists, the formula doesn’t contain any mineral oils, talc, or artificial dyes and fragrances.

My thoughts: This is an amazing product! Not only does it hydrate and protect the skin, but it provides buildable coverage. It comes in three shades: Sheer, Glow, and
Bronze. I was sent the Glow shade. Because this shade has color to it, it leaves my
skin looking flawless. Would I purchase this miracle skin transformer? Yes!

Dior Diorshow Extase: Tiny spherical black pearl pigments define and add thickness, while metamorphosis powders plump up each individual lash. A unique SR38 ceramide complex conditions your lashes, repairing damage and helping them grow more lush than ever before.

My thoughts: Fantastic mascara! This mascara gives my lashes volume and length, which I do not find in many mascaras. It simply leaves my lashes looking amazing! Would I purchase this Dior mascara? Yes!

My Everyday Eye Shadow Palette

Today, I would like to introduce you all to my everyday go-to eye shadow palette, Sigma Beauty's Bare! In my May favorites post, I mentioned the NYX Champagne & Caviar Eye Shadow Palette as being one of two of my everyday go-to eye shadow palettes. Well, this is the other, and my absolute favorite eye shadow palette of all-time! I love all of the colors in this palette, and the pigmentation is fantastic. The color range is excellent for achieving almost every eye makeup look. A must-have eye shadow palette!

The code (STAR2012) will be valid from June 1 - June 30 for 10% of your entire purchase at Sigma Beauty!

May Beauty Favorites

1. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer in "Fair": Although I do not have dark circles, I like using this goji berry and haloxyl infused treatment concealer to brighten my under-eye area. Not only do I use this concealer under my eyes, but I use it as an all-over highlighter for a brighter, more-awake appearance.

2. Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes - Winner of Allure Best of Beauty: Natural Wonders 2011: After running out of my Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes, I decided to try something new! I had only ever tried Neutrogena makeup remover wipes, so I decided to go with a different brand. I have to say, these are my favorite by far. When using makeup remover wipes, I do not want my skin left feeling too moisturized (oily) or too dry. These towelettes leave my skin feeling just right. As far doing the job of removing makeup, they work just as well as any other wipes that I have tried, but are a bit more gentle on my sensitive skin. The delicious scent is a plus. These wipes are 98.7% natural, biodegradable, FSC certified, dermatologically and opthalmologically tested, oil-free, non-comedogenic, and hypoallergenic!

3. Yes To Carrots Melon Lip Butter: I am obsessed with this lip butter! I am constantly applying it throughout the day. It leaves my lips feeling moisturized, without that sticky, icky feeling. Just like my Yes To Cucumbers makeup remover wipes, this lip butter smells delicious. This is definitely my new favorite lip moisturizing product! Yes To Carrots' lip butters contain all natural ingredients, no animal testing, and are paraben, petroleum, and phthalate free.

4. NYX Champagne & Caviar Eye Shadow Palette: This eye shadow palette is one of two of my everyday go-to palettes. I like using this when I am in a rush getting ready, since it contains the most basic colors. I love all of the colors in this palette, and the pigmentation is great. Since I wear natural-looking eye makeup most of the time, these neutral colors are just perfect.

5. Borghese Fango Active Mud Face & Body: After running out of my favorite facial mask, Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, I started using this one. I received it in my November Birchbox (quite a long time ago!). I had only used it a few times, but then decided to finish it before getting another Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque. I like using this spot treating; I dab a small amount of the mask on my blemishes before going to bed at night, and rinse it off in the morning before washing my face. It definitely helps minimize the appearance blemishes.

April Beauty Favorites

1. Benefit The POREfessional: I was introduced to this primer when I received it in my December Birchbox. I instantly fell in love with it, purchased it, and have been using it since then. This is definitely the best primer that I have ever tried! I will not put on foundation without first applying this—it just isn't the same! My foundation looks a million times better when applying this primer prior to my foundation. Not only does it make for a much easier foundation application, but it minimizes the appearance of my pores and makes my skin feel and look smooth. Most importantly, it keeps my makeup looking fresh all day long. The best thing about this primer is that it does not break me out, and I have acne-prone skin. I have oily skin as well. However, I find myself using blotting sheets less frequently when wearing this.

2. Almay Clear Complexion Blemish Healing Liquid Makeup in "Buff": I love using this foundation, mainly because it does not break me out. I would say that it has medium coverage. Although I prefer full coverage these days, this works best for me as of now. Prior to using this foundation, I was using the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, which has amazing coverage. However, it broke me out and left my skin a little too oily after only a couple hours of wear. I have been using this Clear Complexion foundation for the past couple of months now. I like the consistency—not too thick or thin. It is easy to apply and blends amazingly well.

3. Beautyblender: Since purchasing the Beautyblender, I have not used a single foundation or concealer brush. Never have I used anything that blends my foundation and concealer as well as this does, and it is very easy to use! For the most natural looking makeup, I recommend using this makeup sponge. Check out the video below for one of many ways to use the Beautyblender.

4. Fresh Sheer Berry Rose Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15: Like most beauty products that I am in love with, I was introduced to this product in my March Birchbox. I love this lip treatment, because it is a 3-in-1 product. It has SPF 15, hydrating properties, and a tint of color that can be built up to a gorgeous, natural looking shade.

5. Sigma Beauty Brow and Lash - E80: Sigma Beauty recently launched this brow and lash brush. As soon as it was available, I immediately ordered one. Just had to have it! I use it for my eyebrows and lashes. What impresses me about this brush is how polished it makes my eyebrows look.

This May, Sigma Beauty will be offering a new free gift with all purchases over $30—an exclusive eye shadow sample! Sigma Beauty has carefully selected one color from each of their best selling eye shadow palettes, Bare, Dare, and Flare. This is a great opportunity to try out Sigma Beauty's exceptional shadows! The featured eye shadow colors are: Shine from the Bare palette, Grasp from the Dare palette, and Crush from the Flare palette. Throughout May, all purchases over $30 will randomly receive one of these single eye shadows.
